Gallery Walk and Peer Assessment
To check their understanding of the symbiotic relaytionships, Grade 1s worked in teams and created a poster of one symbiotic relationship of their choice. In their poster, they shared what it is and named some examples of it.
Together as a class, we decided and agreed on the success criteria for this task and they are the following.
- They will define the relationship using their own words.
- They will observe neatness in their work.
- They will give accurate or correct information.
- They will manage their working time well.
After they presented their completed work, their peers (classmates) assessed their work based on the success criteria above. In the whole process, they were collaborative. They discussed their perspectives and came up with one solid choice.

How Living Things Interact
Our unit under Sharing the Planet focuses on the relationships of living things and how these relationships influence survival.
This week, we looked into different symbiotic relationships of living things: Predation, Parasistism, Mutualism, Commensalism and Competition.
Predation was easy for the Grade 1s as they encountered this term when they had the unit on living things in Pre School. They explored the terms predator and prey, looked into different predators and what they prey on, and discovered the smart ways that prey do to protectvthemslves from their predators - camouflage, realeases chemical,

Urgent - Lower Primary Sleepover Form
Kindly let us know if your child is joining the sleep over and submit your response before 15th of April (Monday). Lower Primary Sleep Over Form.
The Beginning of our Unit Journey on Sharing the Planet
For the past two weeks, Grade 1s have been exploring the concepts of connection, causation, relationships and survival in our unit under the theme Sharing the Planet.
We are looking forward to achieve an understanding of how living things are interrelated and how each and every living thing contributes to and influences survival.
We started by unpacking the Central Idea: Relationships between and among living things influence survival. The learners worked in groups and applied research skills by looking for the meanings of the big words - relationships, influence, survival.
Once the big words were simplified, we looked at the central idea explained in a simple way: How we interact with other living things (animals and plants) may help or not help us live longer.
We also looked at their schema or prior knowledge about living things and identified them according to the type of consumers they are: herbivore, carnivore, omnivore.
As we zoom in to the concept of survival, Grade 1s were asked to work in groups and act according to this situation: `Your family needs to evacuate to an unknown safer place than Rokko island. What will you put inside the survival bag?` These were their ideas:
We ended the week asking questions and sharing our wonderings.

Thank you so much to everyone who has signed up to come and see our Spring Musical on the evenings of Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th April. We are very happy to say that all the seats are now fully booked.
If you were successfully able to sign up using the link in the school blog, then we can confirm that you do have the seats you have requested. Rather than giving out individual tickets, we will be checking a list at the door for each performance to confirm that everyone is attending. In place of charging for tickets, we ask that you make a donation at the door that the children will give to a charity of their choice.
Should you have any questions at all about the musical, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Azusa, Ms Schelin, Mr Sam or Mrs Harris.

Collaborating in ICT
This Friday, Grade 1s for the first time tried coding using Apitor robots. As most children are fond of building using Lego blocks, this Apitor was fun for them.
The Grade 1s worked in groups. They chose the toy they will build (robot, airplane, car, etc.) and took turns in doing the steps. They were collaborative the entire process as they have to talk and find together the parts indicated on the steps, and discuss how to put the parts together.
The time was not enough so they will continue building next week. Once done, the Grade 1s will use the gadget (iPad) to do coding and this will make the robot they build move.
The children are all excited to see the final result and are eager to complete the work the soonest time possible.
